FOCUS OF THE WEEK

New functions of Google Search being experimented in their Search Lab initiative include: creating images and written drafts with generative AI.

Of course, with Google handling more than 8.5 billion searches a day as of 2022. They will be implementing safeguards and blocking the creation of images that violate their prohibited use policies.

⚡️Insights:

Functionality-wise, the added features are nothing new. But with Google Search’s user base, we can easily foresee them to dominate the large language model (LLM) game.

It will also depend on whether Google will charge users for each “search”. But this is definitely bad news for other smaller LLM platforms, given their relative inconvenience and confusing pricing system with “tokens”.

In an attempt to gain further market traction, OpenAI plans to introduce updates for developers on 6 Nov, including:

  • memory storage

  • vision capabilities

  • 20x cheaper for application developers

OpenAI’s main objective is to keep developers happy, lay the groundwork and make its technology indispensable for future AI developers.

⚡️Insights:

These 2 pieces of news about Google and OpenAI show the top priority of AI companies right now: gain market share and build an exclusive ecosystem for AI development down the line. Can’t blame them if you think about Apple, the exemplar of building a company’s ecosystem and the control they have over their loyal customers.

    • Allows the creation of 3D renderings from text input, considering depth, perspective, and real-world poses.

  8. Project Neo

    • Enables the incorporation of 3D shapes into 2D designs without requiring expertise in 3D creation tools.

  9. Project Primrose

    • Turns clothes into interactive canvases, displaying content created using Adobe Firefly, After Effects, Stock, and Illustrator.

  10. Project Glyph Ease

    • Simplifies the creation of fonts and lettering designs with generative AI that match the input style.

  11. Project Draw & Delight

    • Transforms rough doodles into refined sketches.

⚡️Insights:

It’s worth outlining what these projects do, so that creators can understand AI is not here to take their jobs, but to propel them with higher efficiency. There is the potential issue of creative integrity, but like many other industries, creators probably care more about how AI can be leveraged in their work for the time being.

PRODUCTIVITY HACKS
