Google Bard becomes Gemini

Google is renaming Bard to Gemini entirely and is introducing new updates to its AI collaboration tool. Gemini Advanced, powered by the Ultra 1.0 AI model, offers enhanced capabilities for complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, and creative collaboration. It provides step-by-step instructions, coding assistance, and content generation for digital creators.

Gemini Advanced is available in over 150 countries in English, with more languages to come. It is part of the new Google One AI Premium Plan ($19.99/month).

Additionally, a new mobile app for Gemini is being rolled out on Android and iOS in the US.

The name change combined with Gemini’s new image generating capability powered by the Imagen 2 model finally gave Google some reason to cover them since the end of 2023.

Also, the name change is low key the most important update of Gemini. I don't know if it's just me, but I've never been able to take "Bard" seriously since it reminds me of this playable character in the MOBA game _{League of Legends}.

Bumble has introduced a new AI-powered feature called Deception Detector, which is designed to identify and block spam, scams, and fake profiles on its platform. In testing, the tool was able to automatically block 95% of accounts identified as spam or scam accounts, leading to a 45% reduction in user reports of spam, scams, and fake accounts within the first two months.

This initiative comes in the wake of a report by the Federal Trade Commission, which highlighted the significant financial impact of romance scams.

The company is also leveraging AI in its dedicated app for finding friends, Bumble For Friends, by offering AI-powered icebreaker suggestions to help users initiate conversations. The new feature is part of Bumble's efforts to ensure genuine connections on its platform and to address the growing concerns related to online dating and social interactions.

1) We all know the responses of LLMs are figuratively and literally robotic, which make them difficult to elicit emotion from a normal human being.

2) Say the two users agreed to meet IRL thanks to the said AI-powered icebreakers, what follows would inevitably be another form of romance scam where they find out some just aren’t as sociable as they appeared online.
