OpenAI, Microsoft-backed AI Safety Forum Names 1st Director

Chris Meserole was appointed the first Executive Director of the Frontier Model Forum, an industry body focused on ensuring safe and responsible development and use of frontier AI models globally.

Chris most recently served as director of AI and emerging technology initiative at the Brookings Institution, a Washington-based think tank.

The primary emphasis has always been safety and the potential risks associated with this technology such as intrusive and discriminatory uses of AI systems.

One example is the “real-time” remote biometric identification systems in publicly accessible spaces e.g. facial recognition.

Since big tech and AI companies are the primary beneficiaries to leverage AI systems, one cannot help but feel suspicious about potential conflict of interest and the underlying rationale of these AI safety frameworks.

Lenovo and NVIDIA Announce Hybrid AI Solutions

Lenovo and NVIDIA aim to provide AI-powered computing across various data creation points, from edge to cloud, facilitating the deployment of customized generative AI applications.

Lenovo's hybrid cloud approach is to leverage NVIDIA AI Foundations in the cloud and Lenovo systems with NVIDIA hardware and software on-premises for generative AI.

⚡️Insights:

NVIDIA has been aggressively expanding partnerships ranging from Automotive to Cybersecurity in the AI playground by leveraging its AI infrastructure in both hardware and software.

However, NVIDIA’s long-term success is subject to multiple challenges ahead, including global economic conditions and NVIDIA’s reliance on third parties to manufacture, assemble, package and test its products.

IBM Launches watsonx Code Assistant

IBM has unveiled watsonx Code Assistant, a generative AI tool aimed at boosting efficiency and accuracy in enterprise coding and IT operations.

It has two key applications:

• IT Automation for Red Hat Ansible Lightspeed 

• mainframe application modernization

It helps to propagate best coding practices and ensures trust, security, and compliance.
