Humane has unveiled the AI Pin, a $699 wearable device with a monthly $24 subscription.

Comprising a square unit and a magnetic battery pack, it features a Snapdragon processor, voice control, a camera, gestures, and a projector. The device connects to AI models via AI Mic, incorporating ChatGPT-4 access.

Humane aims to simplify technology interaction through voice commands, offering functions like:

  • messaging

  • summarizing emails

  • nutritional info through the camera

  • real-time translation

The company plans to enhance capabilities, add navigation and shopping, and encourage third-party tool development. Preorders begin November 16th, with shipping scheduled for early 2024.

⚡️Insights:

Despite the initial negative reaction to this screenless device, it represents a bold step forward in the evolution of AI agents. By re-imagining the interface and leveraging the cutting-edge LLM technology from OpenAI, it’s basically Siri on steroid. Let’s see how far this breakthrough is gonna take us.

Amazon is reportedly investing heavily in training a large language model (LLM) codenamed "Olympus" with 2 trillion parameters, potentially rivaling OpenAI and Alphabet models.

Led by Rohit Prasad, former head of Alexa, the project aims to unify AI efforts at Amazon. The company anticipates that homegrown models could enhance its offerings on Amazon Web Services (AWS), catering to enterprise clients seeking top-performing models. The release timeline for the new model remains unspecified.

⚡️Insights:

In comparison, GPT-4, OpenAI's most advanced LLM, has 1 trillion parameters, making Amazon's model twice as big and potentially one of the largest LLMs ever built, on paper. It goes without saying successful model training takes more than the sheer number of parameters.

With its huge investment of $4 billion in Anthropic announced in Sept 2023, Amazon is actively seeking a bigger presence in AI development and breakthrough within its AWS business.

NVIDIA introduces the HGX H200, featuring the Hopper architecture and H200 Tensor Core GPU.

  • The H200 boasts an impressive 141GB of memory, offering nearly double the capacity and 2.4 times more bandwidth compared to its predecessor, the A100 chip.

  • These enhancements enable the H200 to effectively manage the substantial data demands of large generative AI models and high-performance workloads.

  • Shipping in computer servers from leading manufacturers is set to commence in mid-2024, and the H200 will also be incorporated into NVIDIA's GH200 Grace.

The release has supercharged Nvidia’s stock price again, totaling a up for more than 230% so far in 2023.

⚡️Insights:

Companies like Nvidia offer many different configurations of their chips and new semiconductors often take a big step forward about every two years, when manufacturers move to a different architecture for performance optimization. This rapid pace of innovation is one of the major reasons why the AI landscape is evolving so swiftly.

Another driving force is the intense competition between semiconductor companies. The H200, which is expected to ship in the second quarter of 2024, will compete with AMD’s MI300X GPU which was just introduced at the end of Q2 2023.
